Numbers you can trace

Search for "how much does health insurance cost" and you'll mostly find two things: articles that answer with one vague national average, and quote forms that want your phone number before showing anything. RateTerrain is the third thing — a reference site that reads the official public data and shows you the local answer, with the source and date attached.

Three rules we build by

• Public sources only. Every dataset we use is published by a government agency and named on the page.
• Ranges, not false precision. Costs are landscapes, not points — we show you the terrain: lowest, typical, and how your area compares.
• Dated and versioned. Data ages. Each page says when its numbers were imported, and our methodology explains exactly how they're computed.

Where we are on the map

We started where the data is strongest and the confusion greatest: Texas health insurance. More cost terrains — more states, more kinds of everyday costs — are being surveyed.

What we are not

Not an insurance agency, not a comparison site paid to rank one company above another, and not affiliated with any government body. We're a map. The decisions stay yours.
